Volunteer

Comic Conventions and Fan Fests are nothing without their volunteers. And Boulder Fan Fest won’t be any different. The event will succeed or fail based on the community’s support. Meaning, we need great people who care about events like Boulder Fan Fest and supporting causes like ours at the Better Feelings Foundation to step up and help out.

THE STANDARD VOLUNTEER APPLICATION WILL GO LIVE IN EARLY 2026!

NOW HIRING

Boulder Fan Fest needs leaders to make this happen. We’re looking to you, the local community, to help make this magical and exciting event happen. Check out our lead volunteer roles below, and let us know if you’re interested.

BFF ROLES

Breaking down the roles!

PRO NERD

A Pro Nerd is a Project-Nerd or BFF Staff Member. They own a particular area of the event or foundation. Pro Nerds are expected to play a large role outside of just the event weekend and make an impact year round.

THE FELLOWSHIP

A Member of the Fellowship has a larger volunteer role and has ownership over a small area of the event or a small team. They are expected to be involved well ahead of the event weekend.

FAQ

Pro Nerds are "staff" while volunteers are volunteers. Pro Nerds have higher expectations as they are expected to play a bigger role. There's also a chance for Pro Nerds to be more involved in Project-Nerd and the Better Feelings Foundation. More Pro Nerds are always welcome, so let us know if you are interested in serving in a larger capacity.

Shifts vary dependent on position. We are open to receiving all the help we can get, but we also understand you want to enjoy the event. Expect most shifts to be half days with the other half left for enjoying the event.

Orientation will be provided for all volunteers. There will be multiple online meetings, where volunteers will be presented with their duties and can ask questions. There will also be a single, in-person session the Friday before the event for all volunteers and staff.

Specialized areas may be provided with additional meeting times and training.

There will be a digital handbook provided at least 3 months ahead of the first event that will include expectations, code of conduct, escalation paths, and more.

The Celebrity Handler role is a very specialized role that requires additional knowledge and tactfulness. Seasoned volunteers who have experience working with special guests will be given priority for this position.

There will be a volunteer lounge with snacks and drinks and those working as Pro Nerds will be provided lunch each day.

All volunteers will be given a thank you bag (with contents to be determined) as well as get to keep their event team shirt.

We are just getting the ball rolling with Boulder Fan Fest. But as we get past year one, those that continue to support the event and volunteer will be given greater opportunities and relied on more. We can't wait to start building the foundation of a great team for years to come.

We will have a volunteer specific email available once the volunteer application is live. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or feedback you might have.

This may be just year one, but the team running Boulder Fan Fest has years of experience running and helping at conventions and festivals all across the country. We intend to bring that expertise to BFF so that the entire team, both Pro Nerds and Volunteers, are setup for success.
